Hometown Showcase: Stefanie Bezaire

I am so excited to have come across Stefanie Bezaire, an amazing up and coming designer for plus sizes! She is from Windsor, Ontario, which isn't too far from Toronto (my hometown!), hooray for Canadian designers and supporting local!

Unfortunately, I was still in France during the One of a Kind Craft Show in Toronto, but I sent my mum to investigate the Stefanie Bezaire booth for me. Thank goodness I have a mother who will do these things for me! :) I am completely in love with every piece, the fabrics look gorgeous and the outfits are ultra stylish. Her online shop went up today, and you can read her blog as well!

You can find all things Stefanie Bezaire at www.stefaniebezaire.com and on facebook .

Holiday Wishlist!

Christmas is less than 15 days away and I realized that I think I might be the only blogger not to have posted a wish list... shocking, I know!

This certainly doesn't mean that I don't have one, I do, it's miles long, but this morning I took some time to pick 3 things I would really love that have been on my list for a while to share with you.

1. Kat Von D. tattoo eyeliner - which I heard nothing but amazing things about. I am pretty unsteady when it comes to doing liquid eyeliner on myself, and this one has a thin brush almost like a marker and it goes on full of colour. (If I do the line right the first time, I can't risk going over it again and ruining it, so this is super important for me ).

The Kat Von D. collection is only available at Sephora in the UK, USA and Canada (It might be in other countries as well, but not in France where I am), so when I hope to score this when I am back in Canada next week!

2. Asos Curve Slash Neck Lace Dress - I love all the lace that is making an appearance this season, and am feeling left out with none of it in my closet.

3. Black Leather boots - or in this case Evans,  black leather-like boots with straps and buckles. It's so rare that I find a high wide calf boot that I really like and my last pair finally bit the dust a couple of weeks ago. I like these because they make me think of what a pirate meeting a steam punk would wear.

There you have it! My top 3! As Christmas approaches, I might post more, but I'm really big into giving and buying gifts for other people, hence the reason it has taken me so long to post this :)

I have been shopping like a madwoman for friends and family - and wish I could share what I bought with you, but then if they read my blog, all would be ruined. Hope everyone is out enjoying their weekend!

Winter in Paris...

As I sit in my office, the one at work and not at home (evidently), I am watching snowflakes fall and catch on the wirey branches of the trees down on Avenue Montaigne. Dior, Louis Vuitton and Harry Winston look  a touch more magical with a little snow on the ground outside. I know what Paris looks like in the winter from postcards, actually, I know what the Eiffel Tower looks like with snow on it - now I know what it looks like for real.  Of course it is blustry and wet like any city, just because it`s the city of love doesn't mean it gets any less slush and cold than the shoulder of the I195 passing through Buffalo - winter is winter plain and simple. Regardless, from a window atop the 5th floor, the city does have a certain je ne sais quoi...

So far, it has mostly been chilly out, with the odd miniature snow squal, if we can call it that.  The things that make Paris magical in the winter are the markets and the traditions you can see unfolding all over the city. I visited the winter market on the Champs-Elysées, where I drank "vin chaud" (hot red wine - mulled like a cider) and saw the official lighting of les champs for the season. I was honestly hoping it would be more moving than it was, but nevertheless it was beautiful.

At Concorde, there is a giant ferris wheel, almost like a mini London Eye, that you can ride and see the entire city from the top - it is on my list of things to do before I come back to Toronto mid-December. It looks amazing from where I walk most days - so I took a picture for all of you to see.

I think most of us would agree that with Christmas comes famimly and this year I am far from mine for the moment. Just when I needed a little break from the city and the commotion,  I went to visit my friend Thibaut's family, who always take me in like their own and make me feel at home.

On the weekend, when I visited, I spent a good part of the day doing little things with Thibaut's mum. She made us all a delicious lunch, and then took me to see this famous Russian cemetary in Sainte-Geneviève-des Bois. It was beautiful, with all of the Orthodox crosses, flowers and religious momentos , like coloured eggs and miniature crosses in little windows built into the graves. There are princes and princesses buried in this cemetary as well as many Russian writers. More notably, Noreeve, the famous dancer is buried there, and the grave is magnificient. A tapestry created from mosaic tiles covers the grave, fresh flowers and even a pair of worn out ballet shoes from a  fan lay all around the grave. This cemetary, unlike others that I have visited,  had a very peaceful ambiance, almost welcoming.

To continue with the religion themed visits, we made a quick stop the La Grotte de Sainte-Genevieve. I had no idea what a grotte was, but was very happy to have found out.  For those of you like me prior to my visit, a grotte is like an underground space where people go to pray, light candles and thank  god or a sainte for example.  We walked in through a dark tunnel, and at the end, was a corner filled with candles lit in rows and circles, religious icons, thank you letters and flowers. A park bench sat in front of an enormous tree, a tree that has grown so tall and old that it has busted through the roof, forcing them to remove it.  I can understand why someone would come here to think or pray, it is, despite being just off a busy street, a very peaceful and beautiful space.

Once back at the house, I sat by the fireplace to warm up, and to my surprise, Thibaut's mum and dad brought out a bowl of chestnuts they had picked a couple of weeks prior. We prepared the iron pan and for the first time ever, I roasted chestnuts. It was a day of firsts. I then tasted roasted chestnuts for the first time, and am in love with them. They are so delicious and smooth to eat. It is a bit of a process to get to the step of eating but definately worth it. We never see this in Toronto, or Halifax for that matter, but in Paris, roasted chestnuts can be found all over the city, sold by guys on the street with shopping carts padded with embers and pans atop the embers with chestnuts roasting slowly. It certainly makes Paris smell delicious, which I can assure you is a welcome change.

Something new!

I came across this online store, Hope and Harvest, while I was reading Curves to Kill a blog by Teer Wayde, a plus size model and fantastic fashionista. She models for them and the clothes are divine. I am trying to add more pieces to my wardrobe that are high quality and won't become obselete in the blink of an eye. I think these designers have accomplished exactly that in their line - quality and timeless is what I think when I see their pieces.

Perhaps it is just me, but I have not seen this company at all with the exception of on Curves to Kill, but I think they deserve a little of the spotlight. The clothes are beautiful, I love this grey dress!  Are you guys familiar with them at all?

OOTD - Cartel de la Mode Fashion Show!!

I know you are all asking yourself "oh whatever did Katie wear to the fashion show???" because this is clearly important!  Well, I wanted to take this occasion to share with you my new Beth Ditto for Evans dress that I  thought about buying for 3 months before actually doing it. Let me start by telling you that I am so happy that I finally did buy it - because I love it! It has a great fit and looks cute with almost anything - even my battered up old sneakers that I wore that day. I couldn't bare the thought of heels that day as I'd worn a pair of uncomfortable pair of shoes the day before - so I opted for a casual footwear sunday. Anyways, I was ever so fortunate to have a photographer at the show, Jeff Will, take my photo, so I actually have a decent pic of the outfit for you.

Dress - Beth Ditto for Evans

Tights - Spanx - black

Sneakers - I'm not sure, they are old :)

After all my obsessions with the Beth Ditto collection, and the other two pieces I bought, It think this is my favourite!  Let me know what you all think, did you have a favourite piece from her collection, now that you've tried them on and worn them?

Fashion Show for Cartel de la Mode!

Hi everyone!

I know I am a little late on this post, as so many awesome in focus photos have been popping up all over the place this week from this marvelous defile de mode from Cartel de la Mode, but I wanted to share it with you anyways.  Last Sunday at L'Espace Kiron, here in Paris, the amazing Cartel de la Mode along with Les Dessous d'Aprhodites came together to put on a runway show and sale for plus size women. The day went over really well with two shows, one at noon and the second at four. In between there were several tables including Cosmo Plus doing makeup, nails and of course selling clothes.

I really liked the Spring /Summer collection for Cartel de la Mode - lots of great leggings and dresses. I really love this leopard print tunic above.  I think Cartel may in fact be the ultimate designer of wrap dresses - I was so impressed with all the different styles - including a bathing suit, seen below in the same style.

Below is a picture, a little blurry, but in between having my nails done and using my phone as a camera, I couldn't do much better, of Dahpne, who is in the running to win  a trip to the Curvy revolution in Las Vegas in February from Ma Grande Taille. She, as well as all the other fantastic models looked great!

Think you have what it takes to be a plus size model? I know that a lot of bloggers and blog readers have been itching for a chance to go to The Curvy Revolution in Las Vegas. It's going to be an amazing event bursting with opportunity and positivity, not to mention a great place to showcase all the amazing plus size fashion around. Now, one lucky candidate will have the chance to go to The Curvy Revolution, happening in February of 2011 and win £500 worth of Evans clothing! Here are the details and below is a little showcase from the  Paris event for the French Candidates! Read the details and be sure to visit the website for Plus Size Tall to see everything they have going on!

Searching for UK's plus size model

Plus-Size-Tall.com's mission is to encourage all initiatives making plus size fashion more visible. This is why the British website Plus-Size-Tall.com has chosen to partner with the American event The Curvy Revolution. There is a whole host of fantastic prizes at stake and the competition kicks off with 15 lucky finalists being kitted out by evans for the catwalk show, to ensure they step out in style.  Each finalist will get to select and keep their outfits each worth over £100.  Following the runway showcase, two runners up will receive £250 of evans vouchers and the lucky winner will receive £500 worth of Evans clothing, a plane trip to Las Vegas and accommodation at the Las Vegas Planet Hollywood Hotel. She will also take part in the Curvy Revolution official fashion show, modelling on the catwalk amongst some of America's leading plus size models.

How to take part?

Contestants must be women who are UK residents and over 21, wear at least UK size 16 clothing, be at least 56,  be able to walk in heels 3or higher, and apply online at http://www.plus-size-tall.com/community/model-search .

3 Easy Steps:

1) From November 18th to January 2nd,, the contestants can fill in the online application, sending in photos and explaining why they wish to win the competition. The first decision is down to the other members of the Plus-Size-Tall.com community who will vote for their favourite contestant. Anyone can vote by becoming a member of the Plus-Size-Tall.com community (for free).

2) On January 2nd 2011, the 15 contestants with the most votes will be announced and invited to London to take part in step two.

3) On January 15th 2011, these remaining contestants will face a professional jury in London. The ladies will be asked to walk on a stage and explain why they think they should be the UK's plus size model at the Curvy Revolution. At the end of this session, the jury will pick the final winner.

While all of the preparations were being made for the UK competition, things were well underway in Paris and the top three finalists have been chosen! Unfortunately I couldn't be in attendance on the big day but from what I hear it was quite the event and the finalists did an amazing job! Voting is still underway and you can check out the details and more photos here on the French website Ma Grande Taille.
