OOTD: Radiant Red and ruffles!

Hiya!

Yesterday, despite a little grey weather in Paris, I felt the sudden urge to wear bright colours... in particular, red! I went to an art showing at Bar La Liberté here in Paris and wanted look nice, and it turns out that I matched the decor of the bar quite well. I was also looking to carry one of my favourite bags that I don`t take out too often, and in Paris I had many looks on the street as though I were carrying an actual skull as opposed to just a hand bag, but hey c'est Paris!

Red ruffles top - H&M BiB collection

Black Cardigan - UNIQLO

Cropped jeans - MS Mode

Flats - New Look (Available now!)

Red Bow - Call Me Ponie

Skull and Cherries pinup style bag - no name that I purchased a few years ago in Canada.

The expo is on until the 24th of April at Bar La Liberté in Paris, so if you are around and have a minute go check it out!

And here I am with the artiste herself, Sandrine of CréaSand

OOTD: A little nautical nonsense

Hi everyone!

I am back with an outfit that features one of my favourite trends that has been kicking around for the last year or two - nautical and mariner looks. Stripes, blues, reds, blacks and whites with cropped tops and pants - it's all very fun and comfortable. Considering that the weather in Paris has been beyond beautiful the last couple of days, I have been taking full advantage of not wearing socks or coats, sticking to light cardigans and flats... oh Spring, how happy I am that you are here!

I got this great little shirt from New Look (in the standard size collection), and the pants (which I rolled to give a more cropped look) are from M&S mode.

The navy anchor earrings I bought at a little shop while in Berlin and they have no name or creator on them... mystery earrings.

My bow is from H&M and the black flats are also from New Look (available now!).

So will you be bringing out your Spring wardrobe soon or is it still too cold where you are?

OOTD: Cute in Camel

Hello everyone!

I wanted to stop by quickly and show you another little dress that I acquired recently from Dorothy Perkins. In actual fact, despite loving the dress, it is too big so I am selling it for anyone who is interested so click here to see the Facebook album with several cute things for sale - message me on here, Facebook, Twitter or by e-mail if you have questions or want something.

Anyways, I am really loving that camel has moved from winter to spring with fashion from wool coats to light dresses now. I had to test it out and see and I love how nice it looks when paired with red and black, it has a lot of texture. I am feeling a little limited when it comes to bags because I can't carry a dainty little bag with my new camera - but I think for the most part the sacrifice is worth it because I can take photos again. Alright I shan't bore you with my ramblings - here is my outfit!!

Dress - Dorothy Perkins

Cardigan - Joe (old collection - Canada)

Tights - Spanx

Brogues - Primark

Bow - Call me Ponie

Bag - LaRedoute

See you soon!

Discovering Berlin

I have to admit that prior to being proposed the idea of going to Berlin by Paul, it was very low on my list of places to visit in Europe. I think Germany in general had been put aside in my mind because of it`s history with the Holocaust and Hitler. I think I learned about it too early in school and it gives me the willies to the point where I would really be interested in going but fear that I could never be or feel the same after. Anyways, I am so glad that I was given the opportunity to go because I loved Berlin so much, I am now trying to work it into my schedule to live there for a couple of months at some point in the next couple of years. It is a city where artists can be artists and the usual economic and artistic/creative binds do not exist in the same way as other major cities.

Paul and I went to Berlin to visit his friend Matt, who has been living in Berlin for over a year. Not only is Matt a great guy, but he was a superb tour guide - if not the best I have ever had when visiting a city. He knew so much about the history of the city, which for me was a plus, because aside from general grade 10 history I don`t know much detail about what went on in Berlin a little over 20  years ago and beyond. He took us walking around the city, told us stories and showed us tons of little places that only a Berliner would know about, artist hang outs, little hidden spots that have great art or interesting things about them.

On the first day we went the Holocaust Memorial, however we did not do the museum below it. We wanted to see the city, acknowledge it`s history but also stay upbeat - and so we chose to not go to the museum. Next time I am in Berlin, I am going to make a point of going. Regardless, the memorial is enormous and looming and as  you walk through the aisles of concrete blocks that get taller and taller, they overwhelm you, shadowing and towering above your head until you become the smallest thing in it`s vicinity.  Although the artist never wrote a statement explaining it, I think it`s clear what it symbolizes and the way it makes you feel, this gradual taking over, like that of Hitler step by step taking over the Jewish people. A very powerful memorial.

The longest part of the Berlin wall that is still standing has been painted with amazing murals the entire length of it.  Many different artists from all over the world participated in the murals and they all are either done in the name of peace or as a memory of the day the wall fell and the people were liberated.

I love this picture because it so simply shows that anything and everything in Berlin was and is part of their history. Throughout the city, on streets lined with fairly new buildings pieces of the old Berlin still sit, as a reminder of how it was and as a way of showing visitors a past life.

I can`t help but think that Berlin is  a city that was given to young people to rebuild, or at least that is how it feels. The city is as young as it`s artists and is budding growing with them. From old warehouses springs rockclimbing gyms, skateparks, art galleries, night clubs, bars, and beach like sandpits for the summer. Berlin is a city that encourages sharing and participation in a way that I have never seen or felt when visiting a place.

If you have the chance to go, really go, you will love it. It`s refreshing and really historically interesting and recent, a rarity in most of old Europe.

Have you been to Berlin? Did you love it as much as me???

A tourist in Paris - Part 1

Hello everyone!

I know I have been MIA for a while, but since nothing particularly interesting was happening I thought I would wait to update you all when I had something fun to tell you about. This past week I was off work and my good friend Paul, who I met back in Halifax, decided to come and visit me in Paris.  We had made a plan to do 2 and a half days of Paris and then jet to Berlin for 3 days to see his friend Matt and to see the city. It turned out to be a jam packed week that was so much fun I am sad to say it's over.

On Paul's first day in Paris, we walked around, ate at a little cafe and went out for dinner with friends at an English pub (an odd choice of restaurant, yes). We waited until the following day to start our whirlwind tour of Paris. When I first arrived, 10 months ago, I spent a lot of time wandering the city alone, which means I now know a lot of places and how to get there on foot, but I avoided the touristy spots like the Eiffel Tower and The Louvre, because it just didn't seem interesting to go alone. When Paul was here, it was my first chance to go with someone to see all the tourist hot spots and so it felt like a whole new city for me, only I knew how to get around.

We spent part of the day at the Louvre, walked to Notre Dame where we saw point zero - the centre of Paris, and attempted to go to the Catacombs (which sadly were closed). Upon finding out that they were closed, we abandoned our tourist sightseeing efforts for a glass of wine on a heated patio - one of the best things Paris has to offer, in my opinion.

We did so many tourist spots that I can`t even quite remember in what order we did things. We spent a half day at Versaille pretending we owned it, or at least letting Paul `pick out the furniture` for his palace back home.  Check out the throne he chose below.

We spent an evening at the Eiffel Tower followed by a visit to Scare Coeur to see the view of Paris by night.

Look how far we are from home!!!

The three days went so fast and we crammed in as much of Paris as was humanely possible, that is if you are drinking wine while tourist-ing.  Paul was pretty excited about how cheap wine and cheese was, somehting I got over a couple of months after moving here, but I was happy to have someone to share all the good parts of Paris with. We were so lucky to have nice weather, with lots of sun and we survived living for 4 nights in my tiny apartment. What a week! I hope Paul visits me every year depending on where I live :)

Check out this link to Facebook for the entire album of photos. (You don`t have to have Facebook to see them)

Sunday in Paris - The Pink Bra Bazaar

Hello again!

Today I was out with Gaelle and Marie at Trocadero to attend the Pink Bra Bazaar.  To quote them directly The Pink Bra Bazaar is " the first charity uniting women and the world of lingerie (boutiques, manufacturers, designers and media…) to overcome breast cancer. Funds received will support research, prevention, screening and early diagnosis of breast cancer." Despite a smaller turnout, the event was full of colour and life as women came and hung up a bra on the line to help support and raise funds for Breast Cancer research. To attend the event, everyone was asked to wear black, white and a touch of pink, so I did my best to honor the dress code, although I am now aware that I have less pink in my wardrobe than I originally thought. Check out the pictures from the day below:

What I wore: Black tank top - Gap

Tights - Spanx

Skirt - H&M

Cardigan - UNIQLO

Scarf - Oscar de la Renta

Head wrap - Dollarama - Strawberry shortcake

Sneakers - no name

Pink flower brooch - made by me

Shorter hair and more bows!!

Hello everyone!

I'm on a roll today with blog posts and plan to keep it up as I officially have a new camera that takes decent photos and likes to come with me everywhere. Today I spent the afternoon with Gaelle from Les Pitreries de Vanoue at Creteil shopping centre. I wanted to check out what New Look Inspire had in stock for the spring. I forced Gaelle to come with me so all purchases that she made are my fault - I'm not sorry! haha. We were both pleasantly surprised at what we found and it was plenty of fun. On our way out we popped into Douglas to have our make-up done as they had an Yves Saint Lauren counter set up and a most delightful make-up artist and stylist on location, Agossi - You can check out her FB page here . And now take a look at the amazing work she did- mine was a quick au natural look and Gaelle's was smokin'!!

Here I am with my freshly cut short hair wearing my Call Me Ponie red bow.

Here's Gaelle after having her makeup done - she looks like a famous actress from the 1940s - gorgeous darling gorgeous!

We also caught the end of a shooting of the TV show "Belle Toute Nue" which was fun, although we couldn't see much from where were standing above.

Just before leaving the mall, we ran into the host of the show William Carnimolla and he was very sweet and friendly.

For an afternoon of simple fun shopping, it turned out to be a whirlwind of exciting things! What fun!

OOTD: Mad for plaid and I'm moving!

Hiya!

Thanks to everyone who participated in any way yesterday for the day of silence by bloggers for Japan!!! I am back today with an outfit that makes everyone at my work comment on how Canadian I am. I'll admit I wear a lot of plaid but I just can't help myself - maybe it's in my blood. ;)  I spend my day running around at work and so to accommodate this I often wear my little converse knockoffs, so despite them not being the most fashion forward, they get the job done and they are comfy. I was also carrying one of my favourite canvas bags from Primark, mostly as an excuse to announce to all of you that I am moving to London at the beginning of June! I have officially become a Brit - passport and all and I am heading to London to see what exciting things are happening there! I am super excited, although I'll miss my friends in Paris - but we really are just across the pond so I'll be back for visits. Also, if you know anyone with a room to let in London for June please let me know, I am actively searching!

This tunic was once a dress but alas silly me didn't see it wrapped up in my sheets in the wash which then went right into the dryer and made my dress a little too short on the back end to wear sans skirt. Regardless I still love it because it is airy and light and plaid!

Dress/tunic - Torrid (Summer 2010 collection)

Skirt - H&M

Tights - Spanx

Shoes - no brand (converse knockoffs)

Bag - Primark

Earrings - Claire's (from years ago)

Thanks for stopping by!!

For Japan with love: Bloggers day of silence

I'm sure that everyone has been following what's been going on in Japan and perhaps you are wondering what you can do to help. I think when something so sudden happens like this, so many people feel small and as though they cannot make a difference. Sending donations to Japan is a great thing to do if you are able and be sure to visit the For Japan With Love website to get more information and make a donation. www.forjapanwithlove.com

If you are unable to make a donation for any reason I think it's important to show Japan that we are there as a support and as a group, standing together to help find solutions and re-build their lives. On March 18th, many bloggers are taking a day of silence to show our support and let Japan know that we are here and keeping them in our thoughts. If you have a blog please either re-post or create a new post when you have a moment to share this with others and to encourage those who can to donate.

Tell your boyfriends, brothers and fathers...

Here's a little something to pass on to all the boys in your life, that is if you can resist not wearing a pair yourself. While at the Pret a Porter show in Paris a little while back I was introduced to the colourful world of men's socks by a work colleague. It got me thinking about everyday men's fashion and how a lot of the men I know have often said that they feel there is very little room to personalize their look or do something unique while still remaining casual, comfortable and themselves. While women have a lot of options when it comes to work wear, both in style and especially colour, men are often more limited, having to wear suits in neutral shades or colours, their ties being their only colourful saving grace. This is not to say that suits are no fun, because plenty of designer have been amping up their men's suits with edgy cuts, fancy fabrics and plenty of fun details, but the overall concept stays uniform and constant.

Moxy Maus, is a Canadian (hooray) company who design "Bold socks for the confident man" to quote directly from their slogan. Their socks are colourful and fun but still remain completely work appropriate.

Imagine a man, confident in his best work attire, as he turns to walk out the door you catch a flash of colour peeking out from the hem of his pants - a dash of character that separates him from the mass of drab suited boys that hit the streets at 5 in the afternoon. It all sounds very mad men turned modern.

Now you are probably wondering where I come into all of this... let me tell you. I was given a pair of Moxy Maus socks, the most fun and colourful pair (in my opinion) to test out. Despite my somewhat loud personality, my sock collection is most certainly lacking in the personality department, so you can imagine how excited I was to acquire a fun pair of socks. I also have to mention that the quality of these socks far surpasses the quality of any of the socks that I have in my closet currently. I'm positive that when I put these socks away the other socks crawl to one side in shame.

Anyways, to show you just how much fun and how versatile these socks can be I made you a short video.

Moxy Maus socks are available on their website and they ship worldwide, so go and have a look!

You can thank me later for finding what to get your dad for fathers day this coming June. ;)

Thanks for reading and come back soon!
